L’Oreal HIP High Intensity Pigments Color Presso Lip Gloss are a major ripoff in my opinion. They retail at drugstores for around $13.00 a pop, which is super pricey for the small, poorly made glosses. Plus, I don’t know if it’s just me, but it took me a good five minutes to figure out how to open this lip gloss! I kept trying to open it at the top, where the little hook is, then I tried opening it at the base, but I pulled the entire thing off. I thought I broke it, but I was able to pop it back on. Lip gloss should not be this difficult. I can’t understand why they didn’t just make a regular, double-ended gloss.
Once I finally got it open, I realized you can apply color from either side or mix the two. Kind of cute, I guess. But both colors I tried (Swanky and Trendy) were so lackluster that it didn’t really add up to a whole lot. They resulted in a nondescript frosty looking gloss on my lips.
That said, the glosses are super soft, non-sticky and moisturizing. They smell kind of like cake batter, which isn’t too bad, but a little too sweet for my taste. And while pleasant to apply, the gloss wears off too quickly and without enough color payoff. And, major points off for the packaging, which is confusing and overly gimmicky. And as I said, since this gloss retails for $13.00, you can get a much better gloss for that price elsewhere.
I have a very serious Public Service Announcement: I still have nightmares about the time I used the world’s worst conditioner. The offender? Nature’s Gate Organics Volumizing Conditioner in Lemongrass & Clary Sage. Stay away!
I’ve tried many, many conditioners on my days on this earth, and this stuff was totally the worst! It left my hair SO dry that I could not comb it after I got out of the shower. I had to put a deep conditioning mask on my hair and let it soak in order to get a comb through. It was b-a-n-a-n-a-s.
As soon as I put the offending conditioner on, I could tell something was not right. My hair immediately felt awful–like I’d spent 24-hours soaking in a chlorine pool or something. Yuck. I really like the idea of using more organic beauty products, but not if they totally suck. Have you guys had any good experiences with organic hair products? Any that you can recommend?
I love to write about all the great hair products out there, but there is also some stuff that sounds really great, but actually sucks. I know you lovelies are looking to save your pennies for the good stuff, so I’m going to make this a regular feature.
Our first installment: Clairol Natural Instincts Shine Happy Clear Shine Treatment. This seemed like such a great idea… No color, just a treatment to add shiny gloss to your hair. And somehow it would make you happy too? Sounds great. But you know what they say when something sounds too good to be true. If you check the ingredients, Shine Happy actually has peroxide in it, so it is really stripping your hair and in fact can lighten the color of your hair. Stripping color + damaging = Shine Unhappy. Save your money and buy a good deep conditioner instead!
