Obagi Medical Products

Obagi-Skin-Transformation-Starter-Kit

I went to a taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show last week and courtesy of Obagi Medical Products, everyone in the audience got a $500.00 gift card! Pretty sweet, right? We also got a little sample box of four Obagi skin care products: a gel cleanser, toner, exfoliating product, and a sunscreen. I’m going to testing them out and report back to my Beauty Girl Reviews readers. Have any of you used Obagi? I hadn’t even heard of the line, but now that I’ve done a little research, I realize they’re kind of a big deal… Stay tuned!

TIGI Catwalk Your Highness Volume Collection

TIGI-Catwalk-your-highness

Do you guys do something special on Valentine’s Day? For those of you who get all fancy, I bet you want big, sexy hair. The best way to achieve this is with a volumizing product, like the new TIGI Catwalk Your Highness Volume Collection. This line contains six new products designed to give your hair lift and volume. Each product also has a lovely scent, like Sandalwood Vanilla Cashmere. Yum. Plus, studies show that men associate the scent of vanilla with love. True story!

I recently tried out TIGI Catwalk Your Highness Root Boost Spray. I was excited to test this product because I’d heard a lot of good things about it, and I’m always looking for a little more volume. I have to say, though, that Root Boost left my hair with a little sticky residue and left my hair a little dull looking the first time I tried it out. I did a little reseach and realized I used a bit too much product for my fine-ish hair. I used less the next time around and got a great volumizing affect without the stickiness.  Price: $14.95

The other TIGI Catwalk Your Highness product I tested was the Weightless Shine Spray. I love a good shine spray and this one delivered! It’s a perfect finishing touch after a blow out. It elimites frizz and leaves a nice healthy shine.  Price: $19.95

How To: Katy Perry’s Grammy Hair

katy-perry-2010-grammy-awards

Danilo, Celebrity Stylist for Pantene, styled Katy Perry’s hair at the 2010 Grammy Awards. As inspiration, Danilo sought a “hipper version of Bettie Page” for Katy.

  • To achieve the look, Danilo first combed through the Pantene Pro-V Beautiful Lengths Split End Prevention Leave-in Cream to condition and ready Katy’s hair for styling.
  • He also used the Pantene Pro-V Restoratives Frizz Control Extra Strength Serum on her damp hair before drying it straight.
  • While blow-drying individual sections of hair, Danilo sprayed the Pantene Pro-V Volume Root Lifter Gel for extra lift and definition.
  • He then spiral set her curls with a medium curling iron for contemporary waves, tousling hair with hairspray to finish the look. He described her bangs as “bumper perfection!”

I Want: Russian Amber Imperial Shampoo

Philip-B.-Russian-Amber-Imperial-Shampoo

I remember reading a glow, gushing review of Philip B Russian Amber Imperial Shampoo in Lucky magazine this past summer and thinking: I MUST try this stuff.

The Lucky reviewer says: “A true miracle! This shampoo makes my hair – which is wavy and long – perfectly wavy as if styled endlessly by a $700-an-hour stylist, then volumized and texturized as if worked on with numerous styling products (despite no stylist, no blow dryer, no styling products)… My friend – whose hair is straighter and shorter – gets body, volume, and shine. Yet another friend – whose long hair tends to frizz as a result of overprocessing – gets smooth sleekness without flatness… Whatever your wish for your hair, the shampoo grants the wish.”

Like, for realz? But then I read the price: 12 fl oz is $140.00! That’s, um, a little steep. Even though ever Philip B product I have ever tried, I have loved, I am not about to throw down that kind of cash on shampoo unless it’s also changing the oil on my car.

But here’s some good news: Philip B just release a generous 3 fl oz jar of Russian Amber Imperial Shampoo for just $50.00. A little better? At least it makes it a little more realistic to try out “the most luxurious shampoo ever formulated” that’s suppose to gives your hair back its youthful glory and glow in one dose. A concentrated, lipid-packed mix of pure grape seed oil, chamomile, rosemary, shea butter and panthenol (bitamin B5) smoothes and fills flaws in the hair cuticle for a super glossy finish. Of course, the ultraluxe formula is paraben-free and light enough for fine, limp hair.

I’m dying to know–have any of you guys tried Philip B Russian Amber Imperial Shampoo? And if so, does it live up to the hype? For more information on Philip B, check out my review of Maui Wowie Beach Mist.

Must Have: Jan Marini!

If anyone asks me for skincare line recommendation, I always say Jan Marini. I use other products from other lines, but at any given time I’m always using a bunch of Jan Marini stuff. The Bioglycolic Facial Cleanser, Jan Marini C-Esta Cleansing Gel & Bioglycolic Resurfacing Body Scrub, and Age Intervention Regeneration Mask (Love this & use it every week!) And right now I am sooo stuck on Jan Marini Bioglycolic Bioclear Lotion.

I’ve already reviewed Bioclear, so I won’t go into too much detail, but for some reason back then I used it for a while and then started using other things. But recently my skin started acting up–just more clogged pores and a generally flaky apparence. So I pulled out my bottle of Bioclear Lotion and started using it, sparingly, at night. My skin looks so much better! It has Glycolic and Salicylic Acid in it, so I think it’s exfoliating off all of the dead skin and leaving my skin more refreshed and resurfaced. My cloged pores are much better. I’m really loving this, so I just wanted to give it another shout out. Especially for those who are past the teenage breakout stage, but still deal with occasional flare ups and those who have frustratingly combination skin, like mine. Also, I am super sensitive to a lot of products, but Jan Marini works for me.

Jan-Marini-Age-Intervention-Regeneration-Booster

Something super high-tech for all you Jan Marini lovers who are thinking about aging skin: Age Intervention Regeneration Booster. Sounds serious. Is serious!

It provides a noticeable improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, elasticity, hydration and overall radiance. It’s a six-week anti-aging progrma that uses topical Telomerase Enzyme to provide a realistic science-based option for dramatically younger looking skin. The Booster includes anti-inflammatory agents, select peptides and other proven significant skin enhancing ingredients.

Living Proof Full Thickening Cream

Living-Proof-full-thickening-cream

Living Proof, the company that brought you No Frizz, the first new anti-frizz solution in over 30 years, has another exciting hair product launch–Full Thickening Cream.

Living Proof products are the only hair products I have even heard of that are based on technology from research laboratories of MIT professors. (I appreciate people who take hair as seriously as I do.) Living Proof’s team of scientists came up with a new material: Poly Beta Amino Ester-1. I know, what? The science isn’t as important as what it does to your hair. Their latest advancement gives thin, limp hair a natural fullness, but unlike with typical volumizers your hair isn’t left stiff or brittle.

According to Living Proof, the beauty industry has traditionally tried to add the appearance of volume by puffing up flat hair with various sprays or holding the hair into specific positions with various brittle, polymers. But these solutions only last a few hours and deflate the minute they’re faced with wind or humidity.

To really address the problem of limp hair, Living Proof created a brand new polymer that’s both flexible and durable. Poly Beta Amino Ester-1 mimics the look and feeling of thicker hair by depositing a completely flexible and indestructible pattern of thickening points that can’t break or flake off. According to Living Proof, when they used the new product on test subjects’ hair, they felt like they had more hair, with a natural fullness, not stiff, but flowing and touchable.

How to use Full Thickening Cream: I started with clean, damp, combed out hair. Put a nickel sized amount of the cream in my palm for my past my shoulders hair. (You can use less for short hair, more for super long hair.) I spread the cream between your palms and apply it starting below my roots, working down the ends, and then used a wide-toothed comb to disperse evenly. I used a hair dryer to blowout my hair like normal. Using a round brush at the end. I got a great blowout with this product!

Expert Tips: Professional hair stylists and Living Proof co-founders, Ward Stegerhoek and Mitch DeRosa, recommend the following additional tips for ultimate fullness. Continue Reading…

Davines: Polishing Coat & Vegetarian Miracle

When I got my hair cut by Lissa at The Hive, I also splurged and bought two Davines products: Nourishing Vegetarian Miracle, which Lissa swears is how she can both color her hair all the time and grow it super long. And Davines Wizard No.10 Universal Polishing Coat.

9187-000290_l

First of all, that name. I mean, come on. And secondly, it came in this very cute little pink tin that totally matches my new pink bathroom. How could I not get it? But aesthetics aside, this product works. It’s great for creating that piecey look with a layered cut. Also, it smells awesome. After I blow dry my hair, I rub a little Universal Polishing Coat between my palms and apply to my hair from the back of my head (at the nape) moving upward to the top of my head, so I don’t apply too much and weigh my hair down. With whatever is left on my hands, I run it over the front, top and bang area. Works like a charm.

Davines-Nourishing-Vegetarian-Miracle

The Veggie Miracle is a great deep conditioning treatment. After shampooing, I apply it from root to ends and comb through. I let it sit anywhere from 10 minutes to, well, one time I forgot it was on and fell asleep. Oops! I guess that was an “overnight treatment.” For an intensive treatment, you can use this product as your conditioner on alternating days for two weeks and then for maintenance, use it twice a week.

Don’t miss my review of Davines Alchemic Shampoo and Conditioner for Copper Hair!
